Yixue Yang

Chinese
Yixue Yang is a Chinese artist working across glass, ceramics, and spatial installation. Trained at Hubei Institute of Fine Arts and Jingdezhen Ceramic University, she later completed an MA in Glass and Ceramics at the University of Sunderland, where her graduate work received the Outstanding Graduate Work Award in Glass. She is currently completing a practice-based PhD at Sunderland. Her research translates Daoist concepts of wu (non-being), wu wei (non-forcing), and qi into material explorations of void, fragility, transparency, and transformation. Her series Porous Presences combines hand-formed borosilicate glass with second-hand ceramics collected from UK charity shops, exploring cultural displacement, belonging, memory, and the ambiguous relationship between protection and confinement. Porous Presences was selected for New Glass Review 46 by The Corning Museum of Glass. Yang’s work has also been presented internationally, including the British Glass Biennale and exhibitions in the UK, Italy, Spain, China, and Taiwan.
