Yazmin Dababneh

North American
Yazmin Dababneh is an independent, Detroit-based artist who focuses on creating sculptural work as well as immersive and interactive experiences. The goal of her work is to shift viewers’ perspectives and open the door to curiosity. After high school, Dababneh moved from Michigan to study Biomedical Sciences at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. Two years later, she dropped out of pre-med to pursue a more creative path— though her work today is significantly informed by her scientific background conceptually. This shift eventually led Yazmin to the College for Creative Studies (CCS) in Detroit, Michigan, where she truly discovered her artistic voice and path. Since attending CCS, she continuously explores the possibilities of glass and its relationships to other materials. Dababneh has developed a material language by constantly combining and remixing various processes to work through visualizing metaphysical concepts and quantum theories such as quantum entanglement and the nature of reality. Dababneh has dedicated her life to her practice and has taken advantage of any and all creative opportunities that come her way— most recently, she has become the first person in the world to create a goblet in the hot shop that incorporates 3D-printed glass components.
