Ups and downs

Artwork description: Ups and Downs focuses on the tension between manually controlled shaping and uncontrollable material development. Artwork description long: Ups and Downs focuses on the tension between manually controlled shaping and uncontrollable material development. The work explores the natural order and intrinsic rhythm formed by glass’s natural fluidity and bubble expansion in high-temperature melting and foaming, seeking a balanced relationship between contingency and certainty all through the creation process. The creation of Ups and Downs is faithful to the inherent nature of glass. As my graduation project, this work is entirely rooted in the material’s intrinsic properties, whose underlying concept cannot be precisely defined in words. What appeals to me is the contingency within foamed glass. Its uncontrollable changes symbolize the countless unpredictable twists of life known as fate, and the erratic shaping of glass becomes the material condensation of such a concept.
