Artwork description long: Unfolding explores the relationship between expression and interpretation. People gradually reveal their inner selves through relationships, while those expressions are continuously shaped by the meanings and imagination of others. This work reflects on the space where expression and interpretation meet. The lotus was chosen as the central motif because it simply blooms as itself, yet throughout history people have projected onto it ideas of purity, hope, spirituality, and rebirth. Rather than representing these meanings directly, the lotus in this work serves as a vessel onto which viewers may project their own thoughts and emotions. Like a vessel, a person receives experiences from the outside while simultaneously revealing aspects of the inner self. The work consists of twelve glass vessels, each independent yet forming a single composition. Their layered arrangement suggests both the unfolding petals of a lotus and the accumulation of meanings created through human perception. Different glassmaking techniques—including glass blowing, kiln pressing, and kiln casting—were used for different layers to create subtle variations in texture and transparency, while sandblasting softens the overall appearance. Through these layered forms and delicate surfaces, the work invites viewers to consider not only what is expressed, but also how meaning is created through the act of seeing.
