Artwork description: Unfixed Growth begins with the idea of Nomadic Thought. The way nomadic life continuously adjusts in response to its surroundings led me to think about the thorns of plants. The direction in which a thorn grows is also influenced by wind, its surrounding environment, and external forces, causing each individual unit to develop in a different direction.
As these thorn-like units gather and connect, changes in their individual directions gradually shape the form of the whole. Through this relationship, the work explores how individuals develop their own states in response to their environment, while collectively forming an overall structure that remains unfixed and continuously changing.
Artwork description long: Unfixed Growth originates from my interest in Nomadic Thought. In learning about nomadic ways of life, I became interested in how people do not remain in a single fixed state, but continually adjust their way of living in response to their surroundings. This relationship between the individual and the environment led me to think about the thorns of plants. Although each thorn appears to have its own direction, the direction of its growth is not entirely fixed. Wind, surrounding conditions, and external forces influence the direction it eventually takes. The thorns may grow toward the same side or extend in different directions. The direction of a single thorn may seem like a small individual variation, but when many of them gather together, these differences accumulate into a larger tendency that eventually transforms the form of the whole. I use the thorn as the basic unit of the work, changing the direction and position of each unit and the way they connect with one another. Through this process, the individual does not exist in isolation. It is influenced by its surroundings and by other individuals, while its own changes also affect the larger structure. The overall form is therefore not predetermined or fixed. Instead, it gradually emerges through the interaction between individuals, their environment, and their relationships with one another. Through these continuously connecting and extending thorn-like units, I explore how individuals develop their own directions within an environment and how, through their relationships, they collectively shape a whole that remains in a constant state of change.
