Artwork description long: Tide of Light explores the encounter between the organic body, light and the unknown. Hand-blown glass and hot-sculpted at the torch, the transparent glass octopus appears suspended between presence and disappearance. The hollow body carries two candles, transforming the creature from an object into something living. The octopus emerged from my fascination with the ocean as a space that is simultaneously familiar and unknowable. My name Océane “Ocean” creates a personal connection to this imagery. Rather than depicting the sea literally, I use the octopus as a metaphor for its depth, fluidity and constant transformation. Its tentacles extend into the room like currents, reaching, searching and adapting. When illuminated, the glass becomes an active part of the work. The flame travels through the transparent body, creating reflections and moving shadows that continually alter its appearance. Light does not simply reveal the sculpture. It completes it. Tide of Light therefore exists in a state of transition: between creature and sculpture, solid and fluid, darkness, and illumination. It reflects my understanding of glass as a material that can hold both physical presence and something almost intangible: Light, Movement and Memory
