Thirst צמאון

Artwork description: I grew up 'in a greenhouse' in a small village in Israel where my family used to have a mango grove and a greenhouse. It was a warm, safe, and protected childhood that enabled me to recover from the crises and traumas I went through later in life. My childhood memories are my anchors and the greatest source of inspiration. My Israeli identity, the landscapes, and the Hebrew language are very present in my work. My strongest sense of longing and belonging relates to the soil and the Israeli landscapes that are embedded within me. Currently, I am pursuing my MFA in glass at Tyler School of Art and Architecture, Temple University, Philadelphia. This relocation from Israel redefined my identity. Being dislocated from my homeland has become an increasingly dominant presence in my work. Whether it's by using the Hebrew language and writing memories or using images that are recognized as Israeli symbols, such as the Dried dessert land. The literal and physical fractures represented in the work speak to the longing for Zion that has existed throughout history and the torn land of Israel with its endless circle of violence. The pieces also represent my own personal fractures as I relate the soil to my body and my existence.
