Proximity of Distance

Artwork description: My final thesis explores changes in interpersonal relationships during and after the pandemic, drawing from literature on relational aesthetics and art that positions intersubjectivity and interactions as both the starting point and the outcome of artistic practice. The emphasis is on quasi-objects, which, through light generation, serve as connecting elements that inform participants about mutual proximity. The color light signaling, which changes with varying distances from the object, indicates approaching danger when crossing the boundaries of physical and social distance imposed during pandemic protective measures. Moving through the space alters the visual stimuli produced by motion sensor lights embedded in the objects. Central to this is the awareness of the absence of physical and social closeness. The final light installation features three interactive glass blown and sandblasted sculptures. The Master’s work was supervised by Prof. Tanja Pak and Petja Grafenauer.
