Personal Relationship to Objects

Artwork description: The bachelor’s thesis deals with the theme of the emotional relationship to gifted objects that evoke conflicting feelings — we may dislike them aesthetically, yet still have a personal attachment to them. The initial impulse was a small porcelain vase reminiscent of tourist souvenirs from Asia, whose visual appearance seems banal yet is associated with a powerful memory. The work examines how the first visual impression influences our attitude toward things we receive as gifts and how such a relationship can be redefined through an artistic process. As part of the practical section, a set of objects made of glass, ceramics, and porcelain was created using the Kurinuki technique — a traditional Japanese method of carving vessels from a single piece of material. The resulting collection offers a new perspective on the original vase and opens up broader questions about the value and meaning of personal artefacts in our lives.
