Artwork description long: Perch – Surrealist Cast Glass Sculpture As the supplementary creation of my graduation series, Perch carries forward the surrealist language of flowing subconscious imagery established in my primary work Moment Dye, yet develops a distinct spiritual proposition about settlement, rest and coexistence with impermanence. If Moment Dye seeks to capture and freeze fleeting luminous instants of nature and inner emotion, Perch centers on the notion of “dwelling”—a temporary haven amid endless movement, a quiet anchor amid unceasing transformation, which perfectly echoes surrealism’s obsession with the subconscious world beyond rational reality. This sculptural work adopts lost-wax cast glass technology, constructed by detachable elliptical cylindrical slices. Its core artistic conception lies in the hollow negative space embedded inside the whole volume. Curved cloud textures drift downward inside the glass body, fixed permanently by high-temperature casting. The falling fluid silhouette stands for the constant flowing of time, mood and natural scenery, while the solidified glass material embodies still contemplation. The tension between perpetual motion and eternal stasis builds a surreal visual contradiction that breaks the logical rules of physical reality, directly visualizing the wandering, restless subconscious state of human minds. The modular design of separate combinable slices delivers layered symbolic meaning. Divided apart, every elliptical fragment stands as an independent micro sanctuary, representing individual fragmented emotions, scattered memories and separated inner selves. Each piece holds unique light transmission and refraction effects; viewers can observe diverse shadow and color variations from separate angles, corresponding to people’s isolated inner worlds when confronting chaos and change. When all slices are assembled into an integrated cylinder, the scattered cloud lines connect into an uninterrupted flowing image, forming a complete enclosed spiritual space.
