Artwork description long: In my work, I explore the contrast between toughness and sensitivity. When people see boxing gloves, they usually picture a strong man who fears nothing. Yet beneath this mask often lies someone fragile, simply protecting themselves from the world. My purple glass gloves, posed in a gesture of prayer, capture this exact feeling—the purple hue lends them gentleness, while the glass reveals our fragility. If dropped, they shatter, just as a person can break down on the inside. A quote by Mike Tyson fits this concept perfectly: "If you're not humble,'s gonna bring humbleness to your life." It serves as a reminder that the hardest blow is often the one we deal to ourselves. My glass gloves in prayer represent this exact moment of admitting one's own vulnerability. I balance this inner turmoil and raw subject matter with a background formed by a pink pillow, which symbolizes tenderness, peace, and the safety of home. Through this, I create a deliberate opposition: the harsh world of fight and strength versus the intimate, safe sanctuary where we can finally drop our mask of strength. I installed the entire object on a pink pillow that evokes home, peace, and safety, contrasting the tough outer world with the gentleness of home. The pillow features an original design that blends traditional Slovak folk motifs with modern elements—specifically, boxing gloves. It is my own concept in which I reinterpreted traditional Slovak folk patterns and organically incorporated modern boxing symbols into them. An important aspect of intergenerational collaboration entered the creation of this piece: my grandmother helped me execute the traditional cross-stitch embroidery technique, adding a deeply personal layer to the work. The color palette of the decoration carries profound symbolism rooted in our history. I used red and blue, both carrying traditional meanings: red symbolizes blood, fire, energy, and protection from evil, while blue represents coldness, humility, water, and periods of fasting or mourning. The focal point of the embroidered text is an archaic slogan: "I fear no one but God." This inscription paradoxically communicates absolute fearlessness, yet it is stitched onto a soft pillow beneath fragile glass gloves. My artwork demonstrates that even the strongest among us need a safe place, and that vulnerability hides behind every tough mask. The piece serves as a reminder that even what appears most resilient can shatter in a single moment—just like our inner selves—and that vulnerability is not a weakness, but an inherent part of who we are.
