Artwork description: The starting point is the non-patriarchal masculinity, which I explore in glass. I use that material, because it is strong and fragile at the same time, and I see similarities between contemporary manhood and the medium of glass. I want to show how men are formatted by patriarchy, which in my opinion is oppressive not only towards women. The work is an attempt to embody the idea that men are molded by the system, which imposes a certain shape on their bodies and certain roles and behaviors on them. In my work the glass is intended to symbolize the male body, while the metal form is identified with restrictions on the body that leave physical marks. The construction of the form is a kind of metaphorical corset that gives expected shape to “the body" but also binds it and restrict its freedom of movement.
