Artwork description: Circolectric brings together narrative, imagination and a fascination with mechanism. Artist translates her own work into stained-glass, where painting is combined with the craft of glass and light.

Artwork description long: The Circolectric stained-glass is an experiment that translates the artist’s visual work into the medium of stained glass, whilst seeking to adapt the principle of the classical Gothic triptych to a contemporary form. The central element is a rosette inspired by the historic Circolectric machine, which becomes a source of fascination and imagination and, through circular motion, light and colour, creates the work’s main visual motif. In my work, I use historical photographs, artefacts and bizarre objects, which I then process and alter through digitalisation, chance and my own imagination. The combination of these elements gives rise to a new visual reality in which history, personal imagination and a fascination with technical mechanisms come together. The left panel depicts machines and a hand; the motif of hands recurs in my work as an element of humanity, tension and symbolic action. At the centre of the triptych is the circular Circolectric machine, which acts as its main axis. In the upper section is a chandelier featuring hands taken from one of my paintings, whilst the lower section is complemented by injection syringes as instruments of tension and fear. The right-hand panel features a photograph of men wearing smoking masks, as used during the Spanish flu pandemic. The individual motifs form a synthesis of various narratives and, through fascination, imagination and the use of historical references, open up a new way of perceiving traditional stained-glass art.
