Artwork description long: My name is Tereza Hubová, I am a 24-year-old Slovak glassmaker based in the Netherlands. I recently graduated from Design Academy Eindhoven with two glass-based projects, marking the beginning of my independent glass design practice. My work is driven by a desire to understand how far glass techniques can be pushed, both technically and conceptually, while allowing the material itself to influence the outcome. Apriora continues this exploration through a simple question: how can glass become a freestanding, spatial and kinetic form while maintaining strength, balance and durability? Rather than accepting the limitations usually associated with glasswork, I am interested in what becomes possible when lampworking is approached outside of its traditional scale and aesthetics. By combining the precision of lampworking with modular construction, architectural thinking and kinetic movement, I investigate how a technique based on such small gestures can reach architectural scale. The project began as an investigation into connection. I developed a joining technique that preserves and distributes structural integrity, allowing tension to move through the structure rather than remain fixed at individual points. My process exists between control and intuition. Inspired by biomorphic growth systems and architectural frameworks, I explore repetition, rhythm, symmetry and balance. Each structure begins with a small module, repeated hundreds of times, yet every module develops its own variation. This creates a dialogue between precision and responsiveness. Apriora grew into a large-scale glass mobile composed of five interconnected pieces, spanning approximately four metres in diameter, with the largest measuring 1.9 metres. Made through approximately 5,000 glass connections, the forms merge into continuous structures with no clear beginning or end. Suspended by single connection points, they respond to gravity, balance, sunlight and movement, transforming delicate glass into an active spatial presence.
