An Uneasy Truce - Blue Foamglass and Hot Glass Geode

Artwork description: An Uneasy Truce- Blue Foamglass and Hot Glass Geode This work sits within a series of experimental Foamglass pieces that form the final work of my MFA Glass. The concept of the piece is one of personal struggle and development. The material echoes the volatile inner processes and physical struggles encountered while completing the Master’s degree during the pandemic, juggling home life with two small children and limited and often no access to university facilities. An Uneasy Truce was struck - precariously hanging in the balance, always expecting to tip. The inert tension within an ellipse (it’s two focal points always stand in direct tension to each other) makes these struggles visible harnessing the materials volatility and energy. The piece was kiln cast then drilled and finally hot cast with furnace glass.
