Agentic Glass Landscapes I

Artwork description: As an artist, Elle Kannike aims to step down from the creator-pedestal and position herself on the playground as an equal partner with material. She has given up forcing glass into the mould, i.e., a form predetermined by her, and initiated a dialogue with the material. The artwork challenges the prevailing human-centered worldview. Through the video, Kannike offers the opportunity to perceive the world of matter and observe how the glass, awakened by a human and then set free, takes control of its behaviour – moving and showing its vibrant force. This dynamic interaction between humans and glass alludes to a hyperobject-dimension outside the human-centered scale, a realm of existence we are unaware of but cannot deny. Elle Kannike aims to evoke the feeling that humans are part of immeasurably large interconnected actor-networks, with glass as an active and intriguing participant.
