Artwork description: ‘Additive’ – is a tryptic of 3 solid glass half cones, on each flat surface respectively coloured Yellow/Blue, Cyan/ Dark Red and Magenta / Green. Inspired by the question ‘does colour exist in the mind or the world?’ its form represents the cones in our eyes, which are the basis of our colour perception. Additive’ examines the colour of light, as it displays colour by breaking the light spectrum.Working with a company that produces Dichroic glass (derived from the Greek words “di” for two, and “chroma” for colour) sheet material for the Creative Industry, I negotiated with them to use their industrial equipment to coat the 3 glass sculptures.” ‘By applying a dichoric coating to the flat surface, the colours displayed are through the breakdown of light spectrum rather than any pigmentation of the glass. As the viewer interacts with the work, the colours shift and change allowing them to speculate about where colour lies.
