Maria Pechstein was born in 1994 in Füssen. From 2012 to 2015 she attended the state vocational school for glass and jewelry in Kaufbeuren - Neugablonz to learn glass painting. While still in training, she realized that sculptural work appealed to her more. So after her apprenticeship she focused on cast glass and started to work as a freelance artist. Pechstein, after graduating from the vocational school, worked in her father's workshop. Despite the limited space, she was able to realize her first works in glass here. The processing of glass is complicated. Years of experience, a good knowledge of the material and, above all, perseverance are necessary to finally achieve optimal results. Her experimental approach helped Pechstein get closer to the material and learn to understand it. In 2019, Pechstein decided to no longer fixate on just one material and turned to new media. Working with animation, in particular, offers Pechstein new ways to engage with her chosen subjects. In the future, she hopes to combine both analog and digital works. In collaboration with music artist Raphael D. Aletsee, she is currently working on a project that deals with artificial intelligence.
