Julia Kastler lives and works in Graz. She graduated from the HTL Kramsach for glass art and object design in Tyrol. After a sound experience as a restorer & glass painter in the glass workshop Schlierbach (Upper Austria), she attended the University for Artistic and Industrial Design in Linz. There she worked in/with different media and materials (including performances, photography etc.) and graduated with a diploma. After a one-year programme with Mark Angus, a renowned stained glass artist from England, she took over his glass studio in Graz, where she works as a freelance artist. She has participated in group exhibitions both nationally and internationally.
Julia Kastler's artistic work moves in the field of tension between visual narratives on the one hand and the processual emergence of pictorial worlds and symbolism on the other. The visualisation of diverse systems or relationships of many kinds (e.g. between man and nature, man and man, man and the space surrounding him, etc.) are often the starting point of her works and support these visualisations. Artistic (architectural) spatial designs, installations, objects and sculptural works in connection with stained glass are a current artistic field of work and research for her.
