Originally from the North of Denmark, Emma Mercedes Riis trained as a glassblower at the National School of Glass in Pukeberg, Sweden, before coming to the UK to pursue her degree. Her time at University of Sunderland has allowed her to push her own perception of glass as a material, moving away from a production-minded approach to utilising the transilluminating properties of glass to explore large scale light installations.
