To find a suitable material that would withstand the heat of molten glass without change is not exactly easy. Most either burn out completely or unsightly blackened and incinerated. To add to those requirements, the material must also have very similar thermal expansion. Otherwise, the included material would eventually tear the final product to pieces as it cools down. And that is certainly not desirable. Therefore, it is necessary to choose the inclusions very carefully.
